Repair Manuals, Wiring, Part Catalogue

SIS is the electronic service tool that Caterpillar dealers, customers and employees rely on for their parts and service information needs. SIS provides information for all Caterpillar machines and engines from 1977-2010.

SIS DVD is the standalone version of SIS. It is delivered on 9 SIS Data DVD's, 1 SIS setup DVD, 1 STW application setup DVD and 1 ET 2010A setup CD. Version of data DVD's is 02/2010.

Factory level activation codes are included in program price.

From this version STW installer includes following compenents:
  • STW Launchpad (The new STW Launchpad allows you to:
    Conveniently launch Service Software applications,
manage some common SIS / CBT preferences).
  • Electronic Technician (CAT ET - The software accesses information from the electronic control modules on Caterpillar engines and equipment. Using Cat ET, technicians can view status parameters, logged codes, active codes, perform functional tests, and record and view data logs of equipment operation).
  • STW Service Report (The STW Service Report is a tool to help you collect, report, and organize your service jobs.
    - Allows for complete documentation of your repair.
    - Reduce duplicate typing of Service Reports
    - Easy to read
    - Spell check
Easy integration with Dealer Business System (both DBS and DBSi):
Download header information from DBS, upload service information to DBS after your job is completed; Collect information from other service tools, including:
    - Parts lists from SIS
    - ECM summaries and reports from Cat ET
    - Inspection lists from Technical Analysis (TA).
  • Technical Analysis TA Program is a proactive evaluation of the health and condition of all engine and machine systems. The TA is made of four sub-components, TA1 inspections, TA2 inspections, Daily Inspections and Preventative Maintenance (PM) Inspections.
TA1: TA1s contain visual check/walk-around inspections typically performed by PSSRs or Service Technician. Inspections typically occur every 500+ SMU’s
TA2: TA2s contain detailed machine/engine inspections typically performed by dedicated Inspectors or Service Technician. Inspections typically occur annually or mid-life (2,000-6,000 SMU’s)
Daily Inspection: Daily Inspection program is used for ad-hoc daily inspections and information capture from records maintained by the customer from inspection logs typically maintained by the operator and refuel/lube personnel
Planned Maintenance: Periodic inspection procedures regularly performed in order to keep machines in good working order).
  • Component Based Troubleshooting (CBT helps the technician troubleshoot symptoms and codes for Caterpillar engines and machines. After identifying a symptom, the technician is presented with a list of components that, if not operating properly, may cause the symptom. By using the information provided for each component, the technician can identify the root cause of the symptom and fix the problem. The technician is also presented with a list of available ECMs and codes for the selected model to troubleshoot diagnostic codes. In addition, CBT gives the technician links to related information for symptoms and codes in the Service Information System (SIS)).
  • STW Upload Utility (it automates the uploading of SIMS data, the SMU value and the Repair Background Notes from an STW Service Report saved in the STW Format (.xml) into the DBS system. The standalone service report utility supplied with STW can also be used to create service reports for uploading into DBS. The reports are checked for correct data format prior to uploading).

Information Search Methods:

Product Structure

Use the Product Structure access method if you are seeking information about specific systems, groups, and/or components (e.g., cooling systems, water pumps, and impellers) and you know the serial number, prefix, and/or arrangement.

Document Structure

Use the Document Structure access method if you are seeking a particular type of information such as service information, part information, tool information, etc.

Document Structure allows you to view all information types for which you have been given access.
Information types available are:
See list above for information types available in SIS.

SMCS Code

Use the SMCS Code method if you are seeking information about a particular arrangement, system, group, assembly, or component and you know the SMCS code.

SMCS is a four digit code that describes components of Caterpillar products. Each digit of the code signifies a progressively narrower range of the product. For example, the specific SMCS code 1202 would be interpreted as 1000= engine, 1200= short block engine, 1202= crankshaft for the short block engine.

Basic Search

Use the Basic Search method to locate technical information through a combination of Information Type, and/or a part number, and/or a phrase, and/or the publication date of a document.

Media Search

Use the Media Search method to search for a document by a media number without using a serial number prefix.

As Shipped Engine

Use the As Shipped Engine method to access parts and service information based on a specific engine serial number.

Parts Search

Use the Parts Search method if you are seeking information about a specific part and you know the part number or keyword.
The keyword is any name used to reference a part. This includes any word used to identify product arrangements, groups, or components.

Numerical Parts Record (NPR)

Use the Numerical Parts Record (NPR) method to obtain the most current part number information about replacement parts, quantity, weight, and references to technical documents such as Service Letters, Service Magazines, etc. that affect a specific part number.

Remanufactured Parts Search

Use the Remanufactured Parts Search to see a list of reman parts and their related new parts that are applicable for the entered SN/prefix.
